If you ever doubted Elon Musk's ability to make money,Terms of service here's a fact for you: Musk's tunnel-digging Boring Company made $300,000 selling hats.

The news comes from Musk himself, who tweeted his "Initial Hat Offering" results on Tuesday and thanked supporters for buying the hat, which is available on the Boring Company website for $20.

This would mean Musk and his Boring Co. have sold roughly 15,000 hats already -- a solid accomplishment for a company that probably won't have many mass market products to sell besides the logo-adorned hat.

While it's easy to crack jokes at Musk regarding the hat -- his own endless string of "boring" jokes are likely what propelled the hat sales in the first place -- this is an impressive accomplishment that shows the power of Musk's personal brand. Even the man's puns, like them or not, have market value.

Even without the hat business, Musk's Boring Company, which started as a joke late last year, seems to be on the right path. In October, Musk shared a photo of a seemingly quite finished tunnel under Los Angeles, and the company had gotten permission to build a 10-mile tunnel in Maryland earlier that month. Ultimately, Boring Company aims to build a network of tunnels under several U.S. cities that would ferry cars and cargo on sleds, which should alleviate traffic congestion problems.
