In a Tuesday blog post, Sony revealed the new PS5 design. It's slimmer and lighter, and comes with 1TB of storage and a detachable disk drive. The company confirmed that this will be the new design for its PS5 models going forward. The previous design will be phased out after all available models have been sold. The new slim PS5 will ship to other countries in the months following the November U.S. release.

The most fascinating change to the new design is the aforementioned detachable Blu-Ray disc drive. In the past, customers had a choice between the standard PS5 console and the digital-only version, which removed the disc drive entirely for a cheaper price tag. Sony said in its announcement that those who purchase the new digital-only console can purchase the attachable disc drive for $80.

The original PS5 digital console retails for $399, but its slimmer model will now see a $50 price increase for a total of $449.99. The vertical stand that was included in the original models will also be sold separately.
